Key Highlights of Samvadheen by Shekhar Joshi
- Shekhar Joshi was born in 1932 in Almora, Uttarakhand and died in 2022. His first story collection, Kosi ka Ghatwar, came out in 1958.
- His other works include Daajyu, Mera Pahad, Ek Ped ki Yaad and his memoir Mera Oliya Gaon. His writing often shows the struggles of middle-class people and factory workers.
- Tai once lived well, with a large family, servants and farmland. Over time, everyone left and the house became a lonely ruin.
- A villager named Ganpat brings Tai a hill parrot. Mitthu fills her empty life and she starts cooking regularly just to feed him.
- Mitthu learns quickly. He repeats “राम राम सीताराम” and “हर हर गंगे” and comforts Tai with “कटेगी! कटेगी!!” whenever she feels low.
- Their relationship has both love and squabbles. When Tai says “मर जा!”, Mitthu simply repeats it back to her.
- When Tai goes to Prayagraj for the Kumbh, the wife of the schoolteacher Jagan Master agrees to look after Mitthu.
- Jagan Master believes in freedom and lets Mitthu out of the cage every day. One day Mitthu flies out through the skylight and does not return.
- Worried about how Tai will react, the villagers follow Ganpat’s suggestion and buy a look-alike parrot. Jagan Master tries hard, but fails, to teach it Mitthu’s phrases.
- When Tai returns, the new parrot stays silent. The story ends with her lonely and without anyone to talk to, which is what the title “Samvadheen” (without conversation) means.
Revision Pointers for Samvadheen Objective Questions
- Tai’s real sorrow is distance from her family and having no one to talk to, not poverty.
- Jagan Master freeing Mitthu shows his compassion and his idealism.
- Mitthu flying away stands for the natural urge for freedom.
- The repeated “कटेगी! कटेगी!! कटेगी!!!” is an example of punrukti (repetition for emphasis).
- In the grammar section, learn the types of shabd-yugm (word pairs) and the eight types of sentences based on meaning.
These Class 9 Hindi Ganga Chapter 3 MCQs encourage students to read beyond the events of the story and feel what Tai goes through. Shekhar Joshi uses simple, everyday village language, gentle humour and vivid scenes to show how silence can fill a house once full of life. Questions on characters, symbols, the title and the story’s ending help you develop the critical thinking that exams now test. After the quiz, think about whether keeping Tai in the dark with a replacement parrot was right. That kind of reflection makes your answers stronger.
